Swimming pools are an integral part of houses in the warmer parts of the United States. They provide excellent opportunities for entertainment, fun, and exercise. Basically, there are two options when it comes to buying a swimming pool for a private home; above ground and in-ground. Generally, above ground pools cost ranges from $1500-$5000 based on the details and size of the pool. Above ground pools are cost effective, mobile, and quite easy to install. In fact, these pools can be installed and ready for use within few hours.

On the other hand, In–ground pools are relatively expansive than the above-ground pools. Their cost ranges from $7000 to over $45,000 primarily based upon materials, size, and design. Concrete pools are the most popular option available among swimming pools as they can be molded in any shape or size. Water in the pool can be standard heated, solar heated, and non-heated traditional. In case you are opting for the solar heated pools, selection of location is very important so that it can catch maximum sunlight. However, in any other kind of pool, the color of the bottom surface plays the vital role as the color instigates the temperature of the water. People residing in the warmer temperature generally look for light colored pool bottom for cooler water.

    Positive Aspects of Swimming Pools

One can find many positive aspects of building a swimming pool. Health benefits are the most important ones in this respect. Even health instructors believe that swimming is one of the best exercises and it improves the entire body. Unless the pool is heated, swimming becomes a seasonal workout and must be substituted for another form of exercise in the cooler months.

Apart from the above mentioned benefits, it provides many activities to have pure fun and entertainment. You will be happy to bond with the family and friends by organizing a colorful evening besides your pool.

I’m looking for a good magazine to get monthly or maybe a good and informative website with an active forum would be nice.

I’m looking for a magazine that his more focused on fitness, nutrition and such. The occasion rave about other things such as recipes, workout attire and other things are OK, but are not the focus.

I’ve tried SHAPE and Fitness, but I’m not really impressed. Muscle and Fitness seems good, but I’m not really into men, especially those huge ones. Plus, I think it caters more to men than women.

Why is it that celebrities always seem to be thinner, sexier and more beautiful that us? What weight loss secrets do they use to get that way? Is it a diet, a diet pill, Weight Watchers, or what? It seems that if we could only get the inside information on the new celebrity weight loss program or weight loss pill, then we’d be almost guaranteed to experience fast weight loss of our own.

Britney Spears, Jessica Simpson, Lindsay Lohan, Hilary Duff, Denise Richards, Janet Jackson, Daryl Hannah, Whitney Houston, Kirstie Alley and many other celebrities have all been in the news lately because of their own personal weight issues. This article looks at what weight loss strategies have worked for these and other celebrities, and how we can apply these same tactics to our own situation.

    * Most Celebrities Are Thinner Than Us:

Despite the few celebrity weight loss failures, there’s no denying that most celebrities look better than we do. Models, for example, are 23 percent leaner than the average (source: annecollins.com). Perhaps their trim appearance is part of the reason why we, as a nation, have such a fascination with the celebrity lifestyle.

Indeed, we typically reward and idolize the more slender celebrities. Just a quick look at People Magazine’s list of the ‘50 Most Beautiful People 2005′ reveals that only the lean made the list. People’s ‘Most Beautiful Women of 2005′ list reveals the same thing - celebrities (at least the popular ones) are more thin than we are.

Even when we do find a celebrity that doesn’t look like a stick figure, invariably we find that they have recently lost some weight. “No longer a crash dieter, Oprah Winfrey…..who at her heaviest was 237 lbs., has been eating right, sticking to lean protein and hitting the gym as she aims for her “safe zone” in the 150-lb. range. “Maybe for the first time, she’s doing it for all the right reasons,” says trainer Bob Greene of the talk-show queen’s workouts (source: people.aol.com).

    * How Do They Do It?

Even though celebrities do make diet and nutrition mistakes, the majority of them are still thinner than us. So how do the stars achieve quick weight loss when we battle and fight just to lose a few pounds? Is there some secret weight loss product or weight loss plan they’re keeping hidden from us?

The secret is that there is no secret. Celebrities try the same diets we have, including the South Beach Diet, the Zone Diet, the Atkins Diet and countless others. There is no mysterious diet plan or diet product that works for every celebrity all the time, just as there is no such plan that will work for every one of us.

Celebrities that are successful in achieving a healthy weight loss generally do so with a nutritious weight loss diet and regular exercise. Take a look at these examples:

“I think Oprah Winfrey wins the weight battle of 2004 — she looks fabulous…..Look at her, she’s never looked better. She’s been skinnier — that’s true — but she’s never looked better.” “Oprah should set the standard for Hollywood weight loss,” Paula says. “She’s been very open about it. She’s been up, she’s been down, she’s been wide, she’s been skinny.” She continues: “She didn’t do the surgery and she doesn’t really do the fad diets. She eats healthy, she has a personal trainer and she works really hard at it” (source: et.tv.yahoo.com).

Denise Richards put on 30 lbs. while carrying Lola (born June 1), but Richards had a secret weight-loss weapon: “It’s called the Stress Diet,” she says, half-joking, - and alluding to having filed for divorce (from Charlie Sheen) in her sixth month of pregnancy. But mostly she can thank her work with trainer Garrett Warren: She’s been kickboxing and doing abdominal exercises four to six times weekly - and adhering to a portion-controlled diet (source: celebrity.aol.com).

“All eyes were on the miraculous weight loss of Hollywood in 2004,” Paula says. “But there’s no real miracle about it, it’s exercise, it’s eating right and sometimes — it’s surgery!” (Source: et.tv.yahoo.com).

    * Why Does It Work For Them And Not For Us?

It’s no surprise that eating the right foods and exercising regularly will help us achieve our ideal weight. So why is it that celebrities seem to have so much more success than we do? There are three reasons why the stars lose weight faster than the average American: 1) Celebrities have more time than we do. 2) Celebrities have more money than we do. 3) Celebrities have a bigger incentive to stay fit and trim.

Although they do work long hours while touring or filming, there’s no denying that the stars have more disposable time than we do. When you’re rich enough to hire a nanny, a driver, a personal chef and many other assistants to take over the time-consuming tasks of life for you, it’s easy to find more time to exercise.

“Singer Jessica Simpson started a new exercise routine to get in shape for her role as Daisy Duke in the upcoming Dukes of Hazard movie. Her workout includes two HOURS a day of squats and lunges and has motivated her to create a new workout video. “I have a white-girl bootie, so I’m doing all my squats to lift it a little bit and get some junk in my trunk,” says Jessica (source: kidzworld.com).

“Usher’s been workin’ on his abs since he was 16, but claims that it’s all because of good genes…..hard work and being disciplined - oh yeah, and 1,000 CRUNCHES a day. Usher also has a daily routine he calls “forty minutes of funk” which includes stretchin’, skippin’ and jumping jacks. Then he moves onto push-ups, leg raises and tricep dips…..can you say fitness freak!” (source: kidzworld.com).

Not only do celebrities have the time to exercise for hours on end, but they typically have the money to hire the absolute best weight loss support team. Julia Roberts, for example, earns an estimated $25,000,000 each year. Cameron Diaz earns $20,000,000 annually. Angelina Jolie pulls down about $12,000,000 each year and Reese Witherspoon gets a $15,000,000 yearly paycheck (source: bankrate.com). With that much cash on hand, the stars can easily afford to hire the best personal trainers, the best nutritionists, the best dietitians and the best personal chefs.

“Celebrities also have the luxury of personal trainers and nutritionists to help them with rigorous diet regimes” (source: abcnews.go.com).

With a personal chef to prepare every meal, celebrities find it easier to follow a low fat diet. A registered dietitian in the house makes it easy for stars to get a unique diet recipe or any other weight loss information they want. Simply put, having the salary of a celebrity makes it easier to lose weight.

Indeed, it’s that same high salary that gives celebrities their incredible incentive to stay slender. The blunt truth of the matter is that Hollywood and the entertainment industry is not kind to overweight stars, often shunning them in favor of ‘thin beauty’. Celebrities see a very real connection between their weight and their earnings power, which gives them the motivation they need to keep trying when many others would give up.

Statistics show that approximately two-thirds of Americans are overweight. Research by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) indicates that 80 percent of overweight individuals and almost 87 percent of obese individuals are trying to lose or maintain their weight. As a nation, we’re trying to win the battle of the bulge, but we often lack the motivation to consistently exercise and eat right. How much easier would that struggle be if there were a $25,000,000 prize waiting for us when we reached our goal weight?

    * How We Can Use The Diet And Weight Loss Programs Of The Stars:

Although most Americans can’t afford the same support staff hired by the celebrities, we can learn from their success and use that information to achieve our own health and fitness goals. Here’s what we can do to copy the weight control tactics of celebrities:

    1) Find an exercise program that takes less time. 2) Search for free diet information and free weight loss information. 3) Earn and keep more money by losing weight.

First of all, it’s time to face reality that most of us will never have hours each day to dedicate to exercise like the celebrities do. That’s not an excuse to quit! Instead, find an exercise routine that will get results in a shorter period of time. A great example is circuit training, where you get aerobic and resistance exercise at the same time. By combining these two types of workout into one, it’s entirely possible to get real fat loss results in only thirty minutes each day.

Some time-strapped celebrities use circuit training to achieve their fitness goals. Matthew McConaughey, for example, “…..was circuit training - combining cardiovascular exercise with muscle-strengthening moves…..” (source: STAR Magazine 11-14-05).

Circuit training works, especially for those of us short on time. As an example, consider Pick Up The Pace 30-Minute Workout For Women. This is a health club that offers hydraulic circuit training and has seen gym members accomplish incredible results. As reported on their website, member Minnie lost 10.5 inches during the month of February 2005. Vymell C. lost 9.5 inches the same month. The site also reports that Betty K. joined Pick Up The Pace in January, 2003. By September, 2004 she had lost 50 inches, and dropped from a size 18 to an 8. Stacie Y. lost 68 pounds, 54 1/4 inches, and dropped 6 sizes.

The next thing we can do to mimic celebrity weight loss success is find free diet information and free weight loss information. The truth about health and fitness is out there, and much of it is free.

Finally, we can copy celebrity weight loss by giving ourselves a real cash incentive to lose weight. While we probably won’t ever hit that $25,000,000 payday, we can earn and keep more money by losing weight. It’s true! Losing weight will help us earn and save more money. “Studies have consistently shown that obese employees are paid less than normal-weight employees doing similar jobs” (source: HealthNewsDigest.com).

A comprehensive study of wages in 1998 found that obese workers earn significantly less than than non-obese employees. How much less? About $3.41 per hour! This discrepancy was found only in those workers who had employer-sponsored health insurance, perhaps suggesting that the higher costs of insuring obese individuals was being passed on to the employees themselves. (Source: Bundorf and co-author Jay Bhattacharya, MD, PhD, assistant professor of medicine at the Center for Health Policy/Center for Primary Care and Outcomes Research).

So it’s possible that losing weight could eventually add substantially to our paycheck! But did you know that losing weight may also lower the amount of money we personally pay out in medical costs? According to a study published in Health Affairs recently, obese Americans pay $732 more for health care each year than do normal-weight adults. Is that as much as a celebrity earns each year? Of course not - but it is a cash incentive for us to lose weight!

Celebrities will always have the advantage when it comes to weight loss. But with some extra effort we can achieve the same results!

It’s time to build a new swimming pool, before you start the process here are some questions to review and answer. Reviewing these questions before you call the first swimming pool contractor will help you get started in the correct direction.

    - What shape pool do I want? Rectangular or Freeform?

    - What size pool do I want? The size of your backyard may dictate this.

    - Is this pool mainly for exercise or just relaxing?

    - If it is for exercise, are you planning to swim laps?

    - Do you want a spa?

    - Are you planning to heat your pool?

    - How are you going to sanitize the water?

    - What type of deck material do you want?

    - Are you going to have any special water features such as rock falls, fountains or spray jets?

    - What type of internal finish do you want in the pool?

    - Are you going to maintain the pool yourself or hire an outside company to service the pool?

    - Do you want special feature lighting for the pool / spa?

    - What is my budget including items such as fencing, landscaping and other extras?

    - I will need a survey of my property, do I have one?

After you have decided and answered these questions it is time to begin to search out a pool contractor. Ask yourself these 6 questions.

    - Are these contractors fully licensed?

    - Are these contractors insured? Check the companies liability and worker’s comp insurance.

    - Do these contractors provide custom design? Computer pictures or just hand drawings?

    - What type of equipment do these pool contractors install? Major brand or inexpensive off brand products?

    - What reference do these contractors have? Can we talk with their customers?

    - Can we see swimming pools and spas under construction and completed pools by these contractors? Look at projects which would similar to yours (size, features, decking)

    - Remember the lowest price is not always the best option, the least expensive product may be cheaper for a reason, investigate and find out why.

Your decision has been made and you have decided to contract with a certain pool contractor, before you begin the construction process, review the following for the type of optional items which will turn your new swimming pool into a backyard oasis and not just a “cement pond”.

    - What is your plan to sanitize the swimming pool and or spa water? - How are you going to accomplish this very important step? Traditional methods of chlorine tablets, granular chlorine or liquid chlorine are not the only methods being employed today. One of the most reliable and best methods is to use a SALT GENERATOR System. There are many of these units on the market today, do your research to learn about all the features and benifits. Keep in mind that these units will have a large price range determined by many available features. These units produce chlorine in your swimming pool by adding standard table salt directly to the pool water. As the pool water is circulated through the cell portion of the salt generator, the salt in the water is changed into chlorine, the chlorine is added to the pool water and the salt goes back into the pool water solution. The salt is used over and over to produce the chlorine for your swimming pool. Through evaporation and splash out of the pool water hte salt is used up and additional salt will need to be added to the swimming pool water for replenishment. A Salt Generator chlorinator system is a great feature for any new or existing swimming pool.

    - If you have decided not to use a chlorine generator, consider using an inline CHLORINE TABLET FEEDER to chlorinate your new pool. These feeders are inexpensive and allow for the dosage of sanitizing agents into the pool water. Tablets are placed into the feeder and a rate adjustment valve allows for the correct dosage of chlorine into the pool.

    - What about upgraded lights? - One of the hottest items available for any new swimming pool or spa are automatic color changing LED LIGHTS. Ther are many different manufactures which are offering this style of swimming pool and spa lighting. Don’t miss out on the opportunity to have a spectacular place for entertaining, swimming and relaxing, color changing lights are the only way to go.

    - Heaters - To heat or not to heat? How do you plan to heat your pool and or spa, Electric, Gas or Solar. There are so many options here that need to be considered. ELECTRIC HEAT PUMPS offer energy efficient heat but remember these types of heaters do not offer fast heat. GAS HEATERS offer faster heat but are not as efficient as heat pumps. SOLAR HEATERS offer inexpensive heat but not always readily accepted in certain communities or the home’s roof surface does not offer the required space for the installation of the solar panels. It is important to research all your available options for pool heaters before deciding which type will function best in your application.

    - WATER FEATURES - Don’t miss out on the opportunity to add some excitement to your new pool by adding the feature of moving water. DECK JETS, BUBBLERS and WATER FALLS all add unbelievable interest to your backyard paradise.

    - AUTOMATED CONTROL SYSTEMS - Many types of controllers are on the market today. Controllers can be used inside the home and carried around for use by and inside the pool and spa. Controllers can operate a variety of components including the pump, lights, spa air blower, heater, yard lights and much more. Check out the many manufactures of these systems and choose the system which will best fit your budget and backyard.

    - CUSTOM MOSAICS - Tile mosaics are available in a wide range of options, seashells, fish, underwater scenes, cartoon characters, trees, sports logos and just about anything else which can be imagined. Brighten and jazz your pool up with tile mosaics.

    - AUTOMATIC POOL CLEANERS - Again, many models exist on the market today that when used will make your pool maintenance much easier. Three different styles and types of cleaners are - SUCTION SIDE CLEANERS operate off the suction side of your filter pump, no additional pump is needed. If this is the type of cleaner you are planning on using, make sure your contractor is installing a separate line (typically 2″) in the side of your pool (rather than using your skimmer) to “plug in’ your suction side cleaner. These styles of cleaners vacuum the dirt and debris from your swimming pool and deposit it in the pump basket and pool filter. PRESSURE SIDE CLEANERS operate very much like a suction side cleaner except that these types of cleaners require a separate high pressure pump to operate. (The filter pump is not used for this type of cleaner) These cleaners typically have a bag which collects the debris from the pool which will need to be emptied on a regular basis. Additional piping will also be necessary to allow for the operation of this type of cleaner. The third sytle of automatic cleaner is an ELECTRIC CLEANER which is a self contained unit, plugs into an electrical outlet and cleans and vacuums dirt and debris from your swimming pool. The dirt and debris is collected inside the machine and is disposed of when needed. All types work well, research the one which will function best in your situation.

TEST KIT - If you plan on servicing and maintaining your new pool yourself DO NOT purchase the least expensive test kit on the market. Purchase a kit that tests for free and total chlorine, pH, alkalinity, harness and cyanuric acid. Make sure your swimming pool contractor educates you on the usage of the kit and that you understand the importance of maintaining the correct balance of your pool chemistry.

CONGRATULATIONS! The pool is done and the water is crystal clear blue, your new backyard oasis has become your favorite place to just sit and relax. Your pool has been constructed just as you planned, features are in place that you wanted and the pool is the most inviting place in the neighborhood to just “hang out”. Enjoy your investment!

Celebrities always look fabulous. Whether appearing in television or films or strutting down the red carpet during movie premiers and awards, they never cease to fascinate us with their larger than life presence. The truth is, it takes a lot of effort to look the way they do, and since the fans are their paycheck, they cannot afford to slack off when it comes to taking care of their physical appearances. Their livelihood largely depends on how they look. Aside from the clothes, the hair and the makeup, celebrities have to take good care of their bodies.

So it is no surprise that these stars have their own secrets when it comes to workouts, staying fit and looking gorgeous. Their health agenda can range from extreme workouts to well-planned meals. Who doesn’t want to know their secrets in staying absolutely sexy? Here are some of the diet secrets of seven women celebrities.

    1. Jennifer Aniston

The star of the phenomenal television show Friends not only mesmerized audiences with her adorable comic sense and her famous hairstyle, she was also known for having one of the sexiest bodies in Hollywood, as she appeared in countless magazine covers. To stay trim, Jennifer follows the 40:30:30 diet method. The diet consists of:

    40% Low glycemic index carbohydrates

-Foods such as beans, fruits and vegetables, legume

    30% lean proteins

-Tofu, fish, chicken, turkey, beef and low fat dairy products

    30% essential fats

-nuts and seeds, fish and olive oils

(you can get a list of these foods in my book coming soon….)

It is essential that every meal should contain the proper balance of macronutrients to for a healthy lifestyle.

    2. Kate Hudson

The gorgeous daughter of actress Goldie Hawn gained 60 pounds during her pregnancy, which she needed to shed quickly before commencing on her next film. From her previous eating plan, she switched to a higher protein diet. She consumed high protein meals in smaller portions, and she combined this diet with a workout program that includes weight training and cardiovascular workouts. After getting a lot of flak because of her post-pregnancy figure, Kate removed all that baby weight in only four months and has gained abdominal muscles that gained the envy of many in Hollywood.

    3. Oprah Winfrey

As one of the most successful talk-show hosts in the world, there is no question that Oprah needs to maintain her physical appearance for her millions of audiences. Known as one of those celebrities who are constantly battling weight gain, she has recently toned up her figure and has never looked figure in age 50 by combining a regular workout regime and diet plan. Oprah works out five days a week, spending 30 minutes on the treadmill and doing free weights. Her eating plan consists of legumes, fish, nuts, fruits and vegetables, chicken and dairy products that are low-fat. She limits her consumption of white sugar and flour. Oprah also credits her trim figure to her habit of not eating anything after seven in the evening.

    4. Gwyneth Paltrow

A lot of people may find it hard to believe that the perpetually slim Academy award-winning actress actually needs to diet. Not the diet in the traditional sense (such as starving for to obtain a certain weight for a special weekend) but Gwyneth actually follows a healthy eating plan that resembles Oprah’s, avoiding sugar and white flour. She usually follows a macrobiotic diet, eating foods like vegetables, brown rice, and lean meat. She also eliminated dairy from her diet, and does a yoga workout everyday.

    5. Madonna

The pop star known as the Material Girl has always flaunted a body that is to die for, and has become a true fitness paragon over the years. She keeps herself in tip-top shape by having Ashtanga Yoga workout, and follows a strict diet that mostly shuns junk foods. She adopted a macrobiotic eating plan that includes organic foods rich in lean protein.

    6. Claudia Schiffer

The bodacious German supermodel eats salad and steamed vegetables for dinner and eats only fruits before the afternoon. While on locations, she prefers to eat black grapes and drinks tomato juice and herbal tea.

    7. Christie Brinkley

Long-time supermodel maintains her all-American good looks by being a vegetarian. She does not keep junk foods of any kind inside her home to make sure that she does not eat them when cravings occur. She snacks on sweet potatoes in place of candy bars, and she adopts a liquid juice diet when she needs to slim down fast.

    8. Gabrielle Reese

The tall and sexy volleyball star did get plenty of exercise at her old job. However, now a days Gabrielle stays fit using a simple technique that many of us are familiar with….invented in the early parts the twentieth century by Joe Pilates. Gabrielle uses Winsor Pilates workout at home to keep her athletic shape. This is pretty profound when you think about it because she used to be in a highly active lifestyle for a long time, and yet she is able to keep her lean physique with a home workout course with a few simple DVDs and nothing more than a yoga mat.

Celebrities are just like ordinary people. They need to maintain their figures just like anyone else, and there is more pressure on their part since they are constantly in the public eye. Ordinary folks can have celebrity-like bodies, too, and by following certain diet and fitness plans, they can also look like red-carpet worthy.

When it comes to hiring a carpet cleaning company the first question most home owners ask is whether or not to go with a wet or dry carpet cleaning solution. There are advantageous to both but to make the most informed decision possible keep these quick points in mind.

    1.      Fast. Soggy carpets take longer to dry and require planning and preparation to schedule. If you need your Fort Worth carpet cleaned in a reasonable period of time then go with a provider that doesn’t leave you walking in soggy socks for the next two days.

    2.      See Immediate Results. Ever wonder how you are supposed to know if there is a problem or stain remaining before the carpet is even dry? Using a Fort Worth carpet cleaning company that leaves your carpet dry allows you to see immediate results and have stains or other problem areas treated before the technician leaves the house rather than wait for a return visit.

    3.      Dirt. The longer the carpet is soaking wet the easier it is to track in new dirt or stains. Instead, go with a vendor that leaves your carpets as dry as possible to avoid adding the possibility of tracking in new dirt by mistake.

    4.      Bacteria and Other Growth. Soggy carpets attract bacteria, mold and spores that can irritate sensitive individuals and cause unpleasant odors. Use a service that provides quick drying service so you can smell how clean and fresh the carpet is before allowing the technicians to leave.

    5.      Workmanship. Reputable carpet cleaning companies provide more than carpet cleaning services; they commonly provide Fort Worth carpet repair services at the same time. A dry carpet allows you to view the quality of the repair or need for additional repairs while the technician is still working in the home. Poorly performed repairs can lead to wrinkles, discoloration or other problems that are hard to spot in wet carpet.

    6.      Longer Life. Soaking wet carpets might dry out but the pad remains wet for much longer; wet padding retains more dirt, bacteria and other mess that causes your carpet to look and smell bad over time. Wet padding reduces the bounce and comfort of the carpet while making it look flat and matted. Avoid compressing the carpet padding by using a Fort Worth carpet cleaning provider that leaves your carpets dry. Kiwi Services is a great example of carpet cleaning and repair that can leave your carpet dry and ready for company in less than an hour!
